Autobiography
I am a science technician at the Okeanos Institute of Marine Sciences, University of the Azores. I was trained as an Audio, Video and T.V. technician in 2008, specialising in developing and maintaining electronic systems. I started my career supporting scientific research in July 2008 with an internship at the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries at the University of the Azores. Since then, I have been working at the University of the Azores with oceanographic instrumentation used in marine research, having acquired extensive experience with the operation and maintenance of oceanographic equipment.
Research interest
Over the last years, I became interested in developing, operating and maintaining oceanographic equipment, such as CTD, Rosette, ADCP, acoustic probes, telemetry equipment, EARs , current meters, gliders and ROVs. I have participated in many national and international scientific expeditions, including in large oceanographic vessels (e.g., RV Pelagia from NIOZ, and NRP Gago Coutinho, from the Portuguese Navy), medium sized (e.g., NI Arquipélago, and Águas Vivas from the Government of the Azores) and local fishing boats. Recently, I collaborated in developing and implementing equipment for investigation of the deep sea through underwater imaging, namely the Azor drift-cam system (filming of deep-sea habitats up to 1000 m depth) and BRUVs systems (cameras with bait for assessment of the diversity of deep-sea fish).
