Marc Pladevall
Marc is currently working with us with the position of Research Assistant in the team.
Autobiography
With an interest in marine biology since childhood, he graduated in Environmental Biology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), completing his degree in 2019. He has worked on issues related to conservation, especially forestry, as a soil technician at CREAF (Ecological and Forestry Applications Research Centre, Spain), where he did field and laboratory work, and participated in fire prevention campaigns. More recently he completed a Masters in Teacher Training (2021) and worked for a time as a teacher in a forestry school. The Eurodyssey internship program gave him the opportunity to travel to the Azores to work in the field of marine biology as a member of the Deep Sea Ecology team at the University of the Azores. For 5 months, he worked on data processing from oceanographic missions and analysis of deep sea images recorded with the Azor drift-cam, as well as supporting experiments with live deep sea corals at the DeepSeaLab facilities.
Research interest
As a part of the Azores Deep-Sea Research group, my work focuses on the extraction of photos from the videos of the different dives, to have a good perception of what is in each studied deep-sea area of the Azores region. I'm also taking photos of the fish that live in the deep sea with the aim of identificate and register them, and identify the different types of litter that has been recorded on the seabed using the Azor drift-cam.
