Marina Navarro Engesser
Research Assistant
Marina has worked with us in the past with the position of Research Assistant in the team.
Autobiography
I studied Ecology and Environmental Planning in Berlin (Germany), complemented by an internship in the Spanish Institute of Oceanography. There, as a physical and biogeochemical oceanographer apprentice, I did some programming to estimate phytoplankton primary production and had the opportunity to participate in various cruises to collect data in the Cantabrian Sea. I continued this project as a bachelor thesis when I returned to Berlin to finish my degree. Some months later, I joined the Azores Deep Sea Research Group, where I’m continuing my journey as a marine scientist.
Research interest
Within the Azores Deep-Sea Research group, my primary task involves identifying and annotating substrate types observed in underwater video footage gathered from various deep-sea locations across the Azores region, with particular emphasis on seamounts, with a view to mapping them and identifying substrate-specific species distribution.
