ENGLISH (ENG)Through rare images captured with cutting-edge technology developed by our team, this documentary invites viewers on an immersive, revelatory journey into the depths of the ocean.
Over the course of 56 minutes, audiences are transported to extraordinary environments — coral gardens, hydrothermal vents, vast sponge fields, and stark underwater landscapes — each offering vital clues to climatic shifts that occurred more than 11,000 years ago.
With this film, we want to show how our work is reshaping the paradigm of deep-sea exploration, democratizing access to scientific knowledge in one of the least-explored regions on Earth.
Directed and produced by PEPE BRIX, narrated by Alexandre Borges, and featuring an original soundtrack by Pedro “Peixe” Cardoso, this documentary merges science, art, and environmental awareness into a deeply moving and educational audiovisual experience.
Developed as part of a deep-sea characterization project funded by the Regional Government of the Azores, Meia Milha Para Baixo reveals the pioneering role of the Azores in democratizing access to scientific knowledge in one of the least-explored regions on Earth.
