About the workshop

This hands-on training workshop is designed to introduce participants to the key aspects of the construction, deployment, and operation of the Azor Drift-cam system. By equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to apply this cost-effective, open-source technology, this initiative aims to democratize deep-sea exploration and support accessible research in regions where opportunities remain limited.

Participants

The workshop is primarily intended for researchers and early-career scientists from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), particularly those working in regions where deep-sea ecosystems are accessible but opportunities and resources for deep-sea research remain scarce.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped to use this technology to explore and monitor deep-sea ecosystems in their own regions and address locally relevant research questions.

Applications

21–25 June 2027

Applications are open until 1 November 2026, with only 20 places available.

Selected applicants will be notified by 31 December 2026, and letters of support will be provided to selected participants seeking financial assistance to attend the workshop.
