Early-career Researcher

Marisa is currently working with us with the position of Early-career Researcher in the team.

Autobiography

I am a researcher with a Ph.D. in Biology from the Doctoral Programme in Science, Technology and Management of the Sea (DO*Mar). I currently serve as Project and Communication Manager for the Azores Deep-Sea Research Group at the Instituto OKEANOS. In this role, my work sits at the intersection of scientific research, project management, and strategic science communication, with a strong focus on ocean exploration and deep-sea ecosystems. I contribute to research initiatives, ensuring they are thoughtfully planned, realistic, and effectively communicated across diverse stakeholders, while supporting collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and partners.

Research interest

My research interests focus on connecting marine ecology, deep-sea exploration, and science communication to advance sustainable understanding and stewardship of ocean systems. I am particularly interested in deep-sea ecosystem dynamics and conservation, integrating science with strategic communication and public engagement, planning and coordinating multidisciplinary missions, and linking research outcomes with policy, education, and broader societal impact.
