Autobiography
I am a marine biologist and wildlife photographer/videographer from Lisbon, Portugal, with a particular interest in macro photography. I hold a BSc in Biology from the University of Lisbon and a MSc in Marine Biology from the University of Algarve. My thesis research was conducted in Kāneʻohe Bay, Hawaiʻi, in collaboration with the University of Hawaiʻi, where I studied the impact of invasive marine sponges. Alongside research, I work as a dive guide and use photography and video as tools for science communication. My work has received several national and international awards, including Young Ocean Photographer of the Year 2024 Runner-up. Here in the Okeanos Institute I am responsible for the visual communication of ADSR’s social media.
Research interest
My interests focus on giving a voice to overlooked biodiversity, from tiny insects on the sidewalk to shy nudibranchs in the sea, and of course the mysterious world of the deep sea. My goal is to act as a bridge between these organisms and the general public, who may not have the means or knowledge to observe them directly. The world is ruled by the small, and through photography and video I hope to help people understand that value is not always defined by size.
